WHILE many local housing developers aim to reduce costs and speed-up completion by using Melbourne-based volume builders and suppliers, Bellarine Springs Retirement Village in Drysdale is reaping the benefits of engaging a team of skilled local managers, tradespeople and suppliers.

The next stage of development at Bellarine Springs involves the construction of 51 new homes.

The Village’s commitment to supporting local workers and businesses is boosting local employment, and will inject more than $20 million into the local economy over the next two years.

Construction Site Manager Gregg Davies – who worked on the construction of the MBA Award-winning Bellarine Springs Community Centre in 2017 – is now site-managing the new development and he has assembled a local team for the project, which is delivering an array of benefits, ranging from improved efficiency to better building quality.

“Because everyone is local, they all know each other and work together as a team, which means things run more smoothly, and you get a much better quality outcome,” Mr Davies said.

“A lot of developers just want you to smash homes out quickly, but the Bellarine Springs owner here is very much focused on quality.

“So we all work together to make sure we do it right the first time – even if it means taking extra time.

“Local pride is on the line – and we all want to do a good job for each other.

“Doing a good job means we keep everyone happy, and we don’t have to come back and rectify any items later.

“It also costs you a lot of time and money to come back and fix problems, so it makes sense to do it properly first time around.”

Concreter John Creece, who lives in Drysdale and runs JNC Concreting, says living close to Bellarine Springs and using local suppliers makes everything easier and more efficient, while Anthony Baric, who runs Baric Excavations, lives just 15 minutes from the site and says having the opportunity to work on a large and ongoing project like the one at Bellarine Springs has been a big boost to his business.

Bellarine Springs is located at 101 Central Road, Drysdale.

Reservations for Stage 4 and 5 homes at Bellarine Springs are now available and filling fast.
