Locals have their say on road safety upgrades
LOCALS shared their thoughts on ways to improve safety on Portarlington-Queenscliff Road at a drop-in session last night.
VicRoads held the session at the Piknik Café (Queenscliff Road) and encouraged everyone to come along, ask questions, share their ideas and provide feedback.
“Getting feedback and ideas from the people who use this road everyday will help VicRoads to better plan for safety upgrades in the future,” Bellarine MP Lisa Neville said.
At the moment, about 2500 vehicles travel along Portarlington-Queenscliff Road each day. The road is also a popular route for the cycling community in the region.
In the past five years, 11 crashes have occurred on a 15-kilometre section of the road, between Pigdon Street and Yarra Creek Lane. Six of these crashes resulted in serious injuries.
There was also a fatality at the intersection of Swan Bay Road.
