Locals ready to relay this weekend
THE Bellarine Relay for Life this weekend will be packed full of entertainment for the whole family.
Held at Leopold Primary School on Saturday, October 27 and Sunday, October 28, there will be bands, food trucks, Zumba classes, massages, face painting, hair braiding, cosplay characters, a trick or treat hour and plenty more festive activities.
The 13 teams and 71 participants have already raised more than $8,300, with the aim to reach $20,000.
“The teams can fundraise all year by holding events or raffles or any other creative idea they can think of,” Relay For Life community engagement co-ordinator Nicole Petzke said.
“Some teams will also raise money over the event weekend by selling services like face painting or products like a barbcue or crafts.
“If a team makes over $5,000, they are able to nominate a research project that their funds will support, and they also get to name this research award in honour of who or why they relay. Last, year four teams achieved this.”
So far the Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes team has raised $2,795, Team Annie $1,280, The Dreamcatchers $1,074, Portarlington Demons $705 and Bellarine S.C. Youth Advance $510.
The event will start at 3.45pm on Saturday and conclude at 10am on Sunday.
