A KIND and unexpected donation to Queenscliff charity Cottage by the Sea (CBTS) will benefit its children’s programs moving forward.

CBTS chief executive officer Adam Wake said it was a massive surprise to receive a $720 donation from the Port Phillip Sea Pilots (PPSP), further entrenching the long-running partnership between the two organisations.

“They’re an amazing group, so we’re extremely grateful for the additional funding which will go towards our children program’s operating costs.

“I’m not sure why or how we were chosen as the fundraising recipient at the time, but all I can put it down to is the strength of our relationship with the PPSP.

“It would not be possible without this amazing book too, so I’d advise any locals to consider buying it.”

The donation was made possible by a bulk purchase of Brendan Moloney’s book Pilot on Board at a recent Bellarine Women’s Network event.

The book was published in 2020 to celebrate the 175th anniversary of PPSP.

The ladies at the event purchased 18 books which totalled $720. The proceeds were then donated to CBTS.

Between the two organisations, there are more than 300 years of history. Mr Wake said the partnership between CBTS and PPSP has been ongoing for more than a century.

“I find it fascinating that when the PPSP first started, they used to row out into storms to help people. That’s how long they’ve been around for.

“But 319 years between our two organisations is just huge, so for them to continue to give back to our charity is always a heart-warming thing.

“This continues to show that we are both a part of the community, putting the community’s needs first.”

CBTS always welcomes additional donations to keep its programs running. Donations can be made at cottagebythesea.com.au/donate
