MORE than $3,000 has been raised for disadvantaged local school-aged children at the Point Lonsdale Voice, Interests and Education of Women (VIEW) Club’s Oaks Day fundraising event.

Close to 80 VIEW members and friends mingled in the Bonnyvale Garden at the home of James and Karin Veneer during last week’s function.

Fashion outfits were elegant and colourful and the hats were ornate, some featuring wide brims for sun protection while floral fascinators were also popular.

OAKS Day fashion winners were Best Coordinated – Delwyn, Most Colourful – Julie and Most Elegant – Jillian.

Member for Bellarine Alison Marchant attended the event and donated the generous raffle prize which was won by member Jo St.Clair.

VIEW president Alicia Thomas said the club would support The Smith Family – a nationwide organisation that supports almost two thousand disadvantaged school-aged children across the country.

“The Point Lonsdale VIEW Club sponsors twenty disadvantaged students with financial assistance and school supplies which consist of electronic device support, tutoring and mentoring programs, career advice and a Smith Family partnership co-ordinator who supports a student’s specific needs.

“This event was a wonderful way for women to meet other women – make friends and help fundraise for The Smith Family,

Point Longsdale VIEW will be holding a Christmas Trolly Raffle around the Bellarine and a New Year’s Eve celebration in Portarlington Parks Hall.

The group meets at 360Q Queenscliff on the first Thursday of each month from 10.30am for an 11am start.
