Lucky ticketholder to receive tee-riffic ride
MORE than 1,000 golf balls will rain down from above Shell Road Reserve this Saturday as one lucky ticketholder will leave the venue with a new car in their back pocket.
The Ocean Grove Football Netball Club’s inaugural golf ball drop is expected to headline one of the club’s biggest weekends of the season this Easter Saturday with the lucky winner to receive a brand new MG3 Core thanks to the team at Rex Gorrell.
“We thought we would do something a bit different this year rather than the traditional raffle books,” Ocean Grove FNC president Peter Smith said.
Ocean Grove’s senior games this Easter Weekend against Newcomb are tracking to be the biggest game of the year given the yearly spectator turnout for the long weekend.
“Easter games definitely draw the biggest crowd so it times in well to do a fundraiser like this and get a bit of a buzz around the ground,” Mr Smith said.
“It’s a great way to get the ball rolling on what the club is hoping to be a good season and just add even more excitement to an already big day.”
The golf ball drop will start before the seniors’ game, which is scheduled to begin at 4.15pm.
Quite simply, a golf pin will be placed in the middle of the Ray Menzies Oval, and bags of golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter taking off from Barwon Heads and hovering overhead.
The lucky ticketholder with the ball closest to the pin will win the MG3 Core valued at $17,990.
Things are looking up at the club according to the president, as Ocean Grove enters sport
post-lockdown.
Like many others, the Grubbers are looking forward to capping off a full season and hosting creative new events like this on a more frequent basis.
“At the heart of the event, it’s a great way to get locals down to watch some local footy,” Mr Smith said.
“Memberships are actually doing really well this season with social memberships as big as they have ever been, coupled with our catering group the Golden Grubbers also as big as it has been.”
