OCEAN Grove Football Netball Club’s inaugural senior women’s football team has started preseason training and announced Jase Lydom as their new coach.

Lydom, who has played most of his football with Anglesea and has a wealth of fitness coaching experience, says he is very excited to be a part of the first senior women’s football team at Ocean Grove.

“I am looking forward to helping the girls learn and progress their football skills and knowledge,” Lydom said.

“And at the same time, I want them to challenge themselves and push their boundaries.”

OGFNC has had great interest from women wanting to give AFL football a go, and the time has come for them to start training to see if they have got what it takes.

Women are now training at the Bellarine Secondary College oval (Ocean Grove Campus) on Wednesdays at 6pm.

Club president Tony Potter is confident that OGFNC will be able to confirm with AFL Barwon by March 1 that they have sufficient numbers of women signed up in order to secure a team in the coming competition.

Under 15 girls started training at the Bellarine Secondary College oval (Ocean Grove campus) on Wednesday (yesterday) at 5.30pm and Under 12 girls on will start on March 7 at 5.30pm (venue TBC).

The club invites all returning and new junior girl players to come along.

New girls are also welcome to attend training for a few weeks to have a try first.
