Major mobile disruptions coming to Queenscliff, Point Lonsdale

TELSTRA has announced major upgrades to its Queenscliff mobile base station, resulting in a suspension of mobile services at the site from Monday February 12 to 16.

The company anticipates further service disruptions from February 17-21 during the final stages of network integration and testing.

A Telstra spokesperson confirmed that impacted customers would be informed through SMS alerts.

“Customers will receive a text message notifying them about the upgrade works,” the spokesperson said.

Mobile phone users between Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale will be impacted by the works.

The spokesperson also highlighted the broader benefits of the upgrade.

“The works are being carried out to upgrade 4G services and introduce 5G coverage,

“The new tower will ensure we have the capacity to meet future peak season demands.”

Emergency calls made from mobiles affected by the outage will automatically be rerouted to available networks.

“Emergency calls from Telstra mobiles will be rerouted to available networks to ensure access to emergency services,” the spokesperson said.

Coverage from nearby Telstra sites at Point Lonsdale Golf Club and the Queenscliff water tank will remain operational.

Other telecommunications services, including landlines and NBN internet, as well as mobile coverage from alternative providers, will not be impacted by Telstra’s upgrade activities.
