BOROUGH of Queenscliffe Mayor Susan Salter is on a mission to raise awareness of Cancer Council Victoria’s findings that one third of cancers can be prevented.

Cr Salter said her life was saved by BreastScreen Australia, the national breast cancer screening program, and she encouraged all women to participate in this free program.

Free screening programs are also available for bowel and cervical cancer. Additionally, research has revealed that making some simple lifestyle changes can help to reduce the risk of certain cancers.

“With one in three Victorians developing cancer by the age of 75, every step you take to reduce your cancer risk is incredibly beneficial to your health,” Cr Salter said.

Cancer Council Victoria also provide a free information and support phone service on 13 11 20.

“Finding the right support when it’s needed isvital for cancer patients and those close to them as they deal with the news of a diagnosis,” Cr Salter said.

“I encourage our residents to access the services and programs available through organisations like Cancer Council Victoria.”
