Funding confirmed for the Point Lonsdale Tennis Club Improvement program
Council is very pleased to confirm that local member for Bellarine, the Honourable Lisa Neville MP, Minister for Water and Minister for Police, has been successful in securing funding for the Point Lonsdale Tennis Club Improvement Program.

Minister Neville announced the funding for the facility at the Point Lonsdale Tennis Club on Thursday October 4 2018. Together with funding from the tennis club, Tennis Victoria and Council, the State Government grant will ensure that improved tennis courts meet the needs of club members and players.

I am delighted to be able to share the news with the community. Council thanks Minister Neville in particular for making this happen, as well as Minister for Sport, Minister for Tourism and Major Events, and Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, the Honourable John Eren, and his team and the Point Lonsdale Tennis Club.

Congratulations to the hardworking team at Point Lonsdale Tennis Club, along with support from Council officers on writing a successful grant application.

Pick My Project winner announced
The installation of outdoor fitness units around the Borough of Queenscliffe is one of 237 project ideas from across Victoria chosen to share in $30 million in community grant funding through the ‘Pick My Project’ initiative.

Put forward by the Rotary Club of Queenscliff, the installation of these units aim to increase physical activity, focusing on cardio, strength, mobility, coordination and balance. The equipment is intended to benefit all age groups, genders and fitness levels.

The Victorian Government will provide $127,000 and work with the Rotary Club of Queenscliff and Council to help make their idea a reality. During the five-week voting period, over 95,000 Victorians cast votes for their favourite project ideas in their local community. The installation of outdoor fitness units received 161 votes out of a total 375 public votes made across all projects within the Borough of Queenscliffe.

Ron Tandberg Artist Board
Council is very proud to host the launch of a new Artist Board honouring the work of cartoonist and illustrator Ron Tandberg.

The launch will take place at 11am on Sunday October 21 2018 at the Ferry to Pier boardwalk, between the Queenscliff Harbour and the Queenscliff Pier. Everyone in the community is invited, and we hope that you will join us in the Queenscliff Pavilion for tea, coffee and biscuits afterwards.

Ron Tandberg was a much-loved and admired member of our community and his work made a huge contribution to our nation’s culture. An exhibition of Ron’s work, including a series of short videos of Ron discussing the creation of his famous caricatures, will also be on display in the Queenscliff Library until Saturday October 27.

New tourism attractions brochure
The Visitor Information Centre, Bellarine Railway, Fort Queenscliff, Queenscliffe Historical Museum and the Queenscliff Maritime Museum have worked collaboratively to produce ‘Heritage Queenscliff’, a new brochure designed to highlight the attractions and services of each organisation, along with opening hours and contact details. ‘Heritage Queenscliff’ will be distributed through the local tourism outlets as well as Searoad Ferries.

Make ladder safety matter
Ladders are associated with more deaths and injuries than any other household product and men over the age of 60 are over-represented in trauma statistics. That’s why the Victorian Government is running the ‘Ladder Safety Matters’ campaign, to prevent serious injury and deaths from domestic ladder falls. This campaign encourages older men to make safety matter when using a ladder, as well as considering the consequences of unsafe ladder use – not just the risk of a fall, but what could happen after a fall. Practicing ladder safety will help older Victorians remain active and independent.

‘War on Waste’ workshops
Taking the war on waste to a whole new level!

Come along as we take a household room by room view of where we use single use plastics and explore alternatives that will help us live more sustainably. During the course, we will create our own cleaning and personal care products and share waste free recipes.

Please bring with you a reusable bag and three containers. We will also have recycling facilities for batteries, mobile phones, tooth brushes and tubes of toothpaste. Together we can reduce our eco-footprint by effectively managing our waste for the protection of our rivers, bays and oceans!
