McKiterick supports traffic lights at dangerous intersection
LIBERAL Candidate for Bellarine Brian McKiterick met with Curlewis residents at the weekend to support their campaign for traffic lights to be installed at a dangerous intersection.
Mr McKiterick braved wet and windy weather on Sunday morning to listen to the concerns of locals pushing for the lights at the corner of Portarlington and Hermsley roads.
His visit comes after local David Thomson launched the “Better Traffic Management at Hermsley/Curlewis Roads Intersection” petition on change.org in August, which has now attracted more than 140 signatures.
“It is well-known that the Hermsley/Curlewis roads intersection is highly dangerous and unsafe,” Mr Thomson said.
“This has been made worse by a set of traffic lights 100 metres up from the intersection that Lisa Neville installed for the rail trail users, even though a vast majority decide not to use them.
“There is always trouble for road users trying to enter the highway at this intersection. Several complaints to Lisa Neville have resulted in nothing happening.”
The residents say several accidents have already occurred at the intersection of Portarlington and Hermsley roads, and that it’s only a matter of time before someone dies.
