Torquay Tigers’ first run on their newly rebuilt home ground was unexpectedly interrupted on Thursday evening, when an air ambulance landed at Spring Creek Recreation Reserve.

The club had only just returned to McCartney Oval for senior training after months off-site while the surface was redeveloped, with players getting their first proper look at the upgraded ground ahead of this weekend’s home game.

Emergency services were first called to a nearby incident in Torquay at about 4.10pm, before a specialist Air Ambulance Victoria helicopter touched down at the reserve shortly after 5.30pm.

Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) paramedic road crews also attended the incident.

A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said a woman was assessed at the scene. Her condition is not yet known.

The reserve had officially reopened just a day earlier, marking a long-awaited return for the Tigers to their home deck after a summer rebuild.
