A COLLECTION of community groups on the Bellarine Peninsula will host a “meet the federal candidates meeting” featuring contenders for the seat of Corangamite next week.
The meeting will feature presentations from each of the candidates in attendance, plus a Q&A with the audience.
To be held at Point Lonsdale Primary School, the event has been organised by Point Lonsdale Civic Association (PLCA), Queenscliffe Community Association, Barwon Heads Association, Ocean Grove Community Association, Portarlington Community Association, St. Leonards Progress Association and Combined Bellarine Community Associations.
In an email sent to subscribers of these groups on Monday this week, PLCA president Lynne Furness stated incumbent Labor MP Libby Coker and Greens candidate Mitch Pope had confirmed their attendance so far. Libertarian Party candidate Paul Barker and Voices for Corangamite’s Kate Lockhart have since confirmed they will be at the meeting.
“Other major candidates were contacted and have declined due to a busy schedule [and] other minor candidates to be confirmed,” Ms Furness said.
She said it was the electorate’s chance to ask questions about a range of federal issues, and all would be welcome.
The meet the federal candidates meeting will be held at Point Lonsdale Primary School Hall, Bowen Road. Point Lonsdale, on Tuesday, April 15, from 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.
