Meet the creators and hear what inspires them at Low Light
FIVE creative artisans will open studios and galleries to discuss what’s behind their work as part of the Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale winter Low Light festival.
Held over the Queen’s Birthday holiday weekend, “Meet the Creators” will give artists the chance to share the small spaces in their backyard or shed that are their creative places.
“Meeting us in an open studio is the chance to unravel the mystery of a piece of work – what inspires our ideas and how we create them,” said silversmith and stone carver, Carolyn McKinnon.
Ms McKinnon will open her Point Lonsdale studio with Meryl Hodgson.
These twin sisters have two quite different approaches to their environment.
Ms McKinnon creates silver jewellery and limestone garden sculptures and will demonstrate simple techniques suitable for beginners during the day, while Ms Hodgson has focussed her camera lens on the beauty of Swan Bay for the last three months and will present new photographic digital prints.
Popular glass artist David Hobday has a life in, on and around the sea as a marine biologist and his works capture the intrigue and luminosity of our underwater world.
See some of his work as he explains his techniques and his transition to glass artist in his garden studio at Point Lonsdale.
Also, meet Queenscliff artist Lyn Pring at Queenscliff Neighbourhood House Gallery between 10am and 4pm.
“My passion for painting is all about pattern and colour,” Ms Pring said.
“I am so lucky to live in Queenscliff surrounded by a wonderful light and vibrancy.
“I want to express this in my painting.”
Ms Pring’s paintings are part of the Still Life, Shaken Not Stirred exhibition, with Jocelyn Adam, at the Queenscliff Neighbourhood House.
Camilla Watson has incorporated historic connections to Queenscliff in her ceramic mosaics repurposing old china into new objects, including finds from local backyards.

Lowlight is a diverse program of activities in Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale to warm up the winter months.
Meet the Creators will be open at the four venues on Sunday, June 9, between 10am and 4pm, with more information on facebook.com/swellarts or lowlightqueenscliff.com.
