WORKPLACES, community groups, and residents across Geelong are being urged to rally behind this year’s Meli Giving Tree Appeal and help bring joy to locals in need this festive season.
Now celebrating its 25th year, the annual appeal raises vital funds to support children, families, and individuals who may be experiencing hardship at what can be a challenging time of year.
Launching on Thursday, November 13 and running until December 9, this year’s campaign is shaping up to be one of the most important yet.
With cost-of-living pressures continuing to mount, local community support service Meli is calling on Geelong to get behind the cause and help make a difference.
Anyone – whether a workplace, community group, or individual – can support the campaign by fundraising or making a one-off donation.
Meli chief executive officer Robyn Hayles said the Appeal was a powerful way for the community to come together and support locals facing challenges.
“Christmas should be a time of joy and connection, but for many, it can be a period of real financial and emotional stress,” she said.
“With the cost-of-living crisis continuing to impact households, even a small donation can make a big difference to a local family in need.”
All funds raised are converted into gift cards, giving recipients the freedom to choose what matters most – whether it’s a gift under the tree, a warm meal, or fuel to visit loved ones.
Last year, the Appeal raised $110,000 and supported more than 2,300 families and individuals across the region.
WorkSafe Victoria Social Club led the way as the top fundraising team, contributing nearly $7,000 to the campaign and returning to do it again this year.

Club vice president Tim Crowley said the group took pride in giving back to the community.
“For the past two years, our social club has proudly supported Meli’s Giving Tree Appeal,” he said.
“As a club, we love knowing that our fundraising efforts help families, children, and individuals in the lead up to the festive season.”
Meli is delighted to welcome long-time supporter Kim Cooper as official ambassador of the Appeal.
Kim started singing professionally at 17, and was a finalist in Australian Idol in 2009, placing seventh. She now runs the Kim Cooper Studio of Voice in Geelong and Ocean Grove.
“The work Meli does is so important, and I am so thrilled I can use my voice to support this incredible Appeal,” she said.
“Everyone deserves to experience a little magic during the festive season, so please consider donating if you can.”
The Giving Tree Appeal is presented by Meli, in partnership with The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre (The SAFV Centre).
This year’s campaign is generously supported by the Anthony Costa Foundation, APCO Foundation, West Carr & Harvey, GMHBA, The Paddock Bakery, Pixeld, Times News Group, and Bay 93.9.
