Metal message reminds travellers to drive safe

January 4, 2018 BY

VILLAWOOD Properties has updated its corten letters in Highton as a reminder for drivers to get to their destinations safely over the holidays.

The developer and the Transport Accident Commission recently launched a “Drive Safe” campaign, which included changing the letters on the hill next to the Geelong Ring Road to the two-word phrase.

State Emergency Service spokesperson Ian Carlton encouraged drivers to be present behind the wheel.

“Quite often holidaymakers will find themselves on unfamiliar roads, in increased traffic and driving long distances,” he said.

“They may also be driving under different conditions such as a weather event, towing a trailer or caravan, or with extra passengers inside the car.”

“It is not just concentrating on your own driving that is important, it is also essential to have an awareness of other vehicles and be ready to react if something unpredictable happens.”

Villawood executive director Rory Costelloe said Victoria’s south-west was a hot spot for tourists, and many of them would drive past the “Drive Safe” message.

“Hopefully it encourages people to be patient and alert on the roads, especially in heavy conditions.

“Villawood holds community as an imperative in all its projects and the ‘Drive Safe’ message is aimed at keeping the community safe, especially at a time when families are gathering for annual celebrations and get-togethers.”
