Million paws to start walking next month

April 25, 2019 BY

More than 12,000 people across the state participated in the Million Paws Walk in 2018.

ANIMAL lovers across the state are pulling out their trainers and dog leashes in anticipation of the state’s largest dog walking event taking place next month to raise funds for RSPCA Victoria.

The Million Paws Walk will be held in Geelong and several other locations across the state on May 19 and marks the 25th anniversary of RSPCA Victoria’s biggest fundraising event to end animal cruelty.

It’s tipped to be the most successful walk yet, with ticket sales already soaring above records set last year. Last year, more than 12,000 people across the state participated in the Million Paws Walk.

“Every year we look forward to the Million Paws Walk, and every year it exceeds our expectations.

It’s inspiring to see the community band together and walk towards a future free from animal cruelty,” RSPCA Victoria chief executive officer Liz Walker.

“Not only is the walk a vital fundraiser for us, but it also helps foster a sense of connection within local communities.

“The Million Paws Walk brings people together over a mutual love of dogs, to swap stories and tips to improve the wellbeing of pets across Victoria.”

The Million Paws Walk will be hosted in 15 different metro and regional locations around Victoria, giving every dog lover the chance to play their role in the fight against animal cruelty while enjoying a fun day out.

The flagship walk at Melbourne’s Albert Park will feature live entertainment, food trucks, veterinary advice, dog washes and fun exhibits.

Attendees will also get the chance to enter pet dog competitions, such as Best Rescue Story, and win prizes on the day.

Money raised through ticket sales, online fundraising, merchandise and competitions will be used to support RSPCA Victoria’s work within the community, including caring for more than 20,000 animals that come through its shelters each year.

The event welcomes all people, even those without dogs, to get fundraising and help RSPCA Victoria make their 25th anniversary walk one to remember.

Attendees are reminded that all dogs in attendance must be vaccinated and comfortable in the company of other dogs.

Individuals can register online to personalise their fundraising page to share with their family and friends, and purchase merchandise in the lead up to the event.
