BELLARINE Bayside has recently completed a critical extension to the northern Bellarine Coastal Trail.
The long-awaited extension completes the final key missing link between Portarlington and Point Richards.
Bellarine Bayside CEO John Nankervis said that section of trail was designed to be a shared pathway that allowed the whole community to enjoy safe and easy access between the two areas.
Previously, the trail stopped short at the boundary fence on either side of the Portarlington Sailing Club, meaning trail users had to make their way along the beach if they wished to continue.
The trail now snakes around the club and is surfaced with Gherang Gravel which creates a durable and lasting surface.
“We are well on our way to achieving our objective of creating an unbroken trail along the 17 kilometres of foreshore that we manage,” Mr Nankervis said.
Members of the Bellarine Belles use the new section of trail and say they are delighted to cycle along this section of the foreshore trail rather than on Boat Road or having to walk their bikes along the beach.
