Work begins on Murradoc Road rebuild

BELLARINE drivers can look forward to smoother and safer travel on Murradoc Road, with maintenance works starting last week.

Bellarine MP Lisa Neville said 3.2 kilometres of Murradoc Road between Martins and Becks Roads, will undergo a full pavement rebuild, to improve its durability and longevity, with a $2.83 million investment from the Victorian Government.

Ms Neville said the old road surface will be churned up and an additional crushed rock layer will be added to create a new, stronger road pavement.

A final seal will then be overlaid to protect the road and improve the ride quality for drivers and cyclists.

Works will also include stormwater drainage improvements, new signage, line marking and guard rail installation.

As a key route connecting the Drysdale and St Leonards communities, the road carries about 7,400 vehicles every day and is also a popular route for cyclists travelling across the Bellarine.

Works will take place Monday to Friday and are expected to be completed by Easter, weather permitting.

Locals are advised that speed and lane restrictions may be in place during work hours to keep drivers and workers safe.

During the 2019/20 maintenance season, crews will rebuild, repair and resurface around 1,500 kilometres of the regional road network throughout Victoria.
