Flurry of music festivals announced

THE easing of COVID-19 restrictions in Victoria has seen a surge in local music festivals being announced for 2022, with events in Queenscliff, Bambra and Mount Duneed Estate now confirmed.

In Queenscliff, the organisers of the Queenscliff Music Festival – who are already rolling out By The Pier in the coastal town on March 25-27 – have now unveiled Queenscliff Town Hall.

The aim is present to concerts once a month (or thereabouts) at the Learmonth Street venue throughout the year, as well as support existing community events such as the Queenscliff Literary Festival and Bellarine Lighthouse Film Festival.

The first of the Queenscliff Town Hall shows is already done, with Bones & Jones performing an all-ages gig yesterday (Friday, December 10).

Other acts announced so far are Tex Perkins and Matt Walker on January 15, William Crighton on February 11, Thornbird (Vikki Thorn of The Waifs) on March 11 and Julia Jacklin on April 1.

Meadow is set to return to Bambra in 2022, with the three-day festival’s eighth installment to be held from March 25-27.

The 100 per cent homegrown bill of diverse and genre-expanding acts covers every inch of the music spectrum, and will be headlined by Hiatus Kaiyote, Methyl Ethel and Tropical F*** Storm.

Filling out on the bill so far are Maple Glider, Fantastic Man, MOD CON, Gabriella Cohen, Youth Group, Clamm, First Beige, Andy Golledge Band, 1300, Moktar, Emma Russack and Lachlan Denton, Izy, Cookii, Middle Name Dance Band, Mess Esque and Teether and Kuya Neil, with more to be announced in the new year.

Hot on the heels of slated dates for Midnight Oil and The Killers in 2022, the Mount Duneed Estate winery has been locked in as the only Victorian stop on The Squeeze festival tour.

Set for April 16, the festival will be again headlined by Lime Cordiale and feature Thelma Plum, Client Liaison, The VANNS, Teenage Dads and merci, mercy.

“We’ve been putting on shows since the Lime Cordiale boys were just kids, but our main ethos has always been about supporting Australian talent, new and established,” Roundhouse Entertainment and A Day on the Green promoter Michael Newton said.

“The Squeeze is the best of both worlds – people who love Lime Cordiale can come and enjoy their music and the A Day on the Green experience, as well as the other acts on the bill handpicked by Louis and Oli.

“It’s a win-win for everyone.

“There’s no better place to enjoy a whole day of live music than at A Day on the Green.”
