National Celtic Festival’s war against waste

May 22, 2019 BY

Party with the planet not against it at next month’s National Celtic Festival.

THE National Celtic Festival (NCF) is leading the charge in event waste management this year through a large-scale Wash Against Waste initiative and the use of manned Bin Hubs (as seen at the Queenscliff Music Festival).

Together with vendors and community partners, NCF is introducing a no single-use plastic ethos at the event on June 7-10.

“We encourage patrons to BYO cups, water bottles and bags to help us minimise waste at the festival,” director Una McAlinden said.

“We are looking forward to everyone’s support to enable the festival to be a pillar for future events.”

Patrons are encouraged to loan a Wash Against Waste kit (bowl, cutlery, cup) – during the event as all vendors will be stocked with these items rather than plastic single-use packaging. The initiative has been made possible due to funding secured through a Coastal Protection grant. A Barwon Water fountain and reusable cups will also be provided.

The festival waste management is being run in conjunction with Caring For Our Bays, B-Alternative, Geelong Sustainability Group, Geelong Intrepid Landcare and Green Team Volunteers.
