A DEVELOPMENT strategy for the Indented Head Nature Reserve is in its final planning stages.

The City of Greater Geelong endorsed a draft masterplan for the reserve last month which is now open for public comment ahead of its final adoption.

The council declared the 13.6 hectare site at Indented Head’s western boundary a nature reserve in June 2019 and said its plan aimed to preserve significant environment values of the area.

The reserve is home to one of the last remaining remnants of the endangered plains grassy woodland on the Bellarine and is home to a host of bird and reptile habitat.

COGG’s masterplan would introduce new elements such as gravel walking tracks, boardwalks, nature-based seating and picnic areas to enhance community use while preserving environmental assets.

“Our targeted consultation showed the preservation of the native environment was a major concern, as well as improving access for the public,” Bellarine Ward councilor Jim Mason said.

“The creation of walking paths were important, as well as protecting and enhancing the reserve’s ecological and Indigenous cultural values.”

The plan is available at COGG’s website and is open for feedback until June 30.
