New event set to sail into the Bellarine

April 15, 2021 BY

Sail Bellarine will provide an exciting racing schedule over the two days. There will be plenty of opportunity to relax on the shores of Port Phillip Bay and enjoy some of the local treats.

A NEW sailing event coming to the Bellarine next month has already attracted huge interest with less than three weeks to go.

Sail Bellarine is aiming to bring about 200 people to Indented Head Yacht Club on May 1 and 2.

Sailing clubs from Indented Head, Portarlington and St Leonards are jointly running the event, which also has the full support of Bellarine Bayside and the City of Greater Geelong.

Regatta coordinator Chris Green said Indented Head Yacht Club was hoping to emulate the successful formula developed by the Sail Country team, which is a social event that has a focus on having fun and having some awesome racing on what is one of Victoria’s most beautiful sailing locations.

“We are putting together a program that provides an exciting racing schedule over two days, together with plenty of opportunity to relax on the shores of Port Phillip Bay and enjoy some of the local treats such as wineries, cideries and gourmet foods and much more,” Green said.

“There will be camping available right next to Indented Head Yacht Club thanks to Bayside Bellarine opening up their camping facilities exclusively for this event.

There will be plenty of opportunity to relax on the shores of Port Phillip Bay and enjoy some of the local treats.

“We will also be ensuring there are lots of catering options on-site so all you need to do is turn up, pitch your tent/van and settle in for the weekend.”

Green said the event was also 100 per cent volunteer run.

He said in terms of current status, Sail Bellarine had already attracted huge interest with more than 100 entries.

“The local community are supporting the event with participation from local businesses and some of the local community have even volunteered to help out with running it,” Green said.

“We’re very excited to be putting the Bellarine on show to sailors from all around the country – we have boats coming from New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia so it’s going to be a great showcase for the area.”

If you have any volunteers in your association that can assist, please get in touch with Phil Viney at [email protected] – he’d love to hear from you.
