New market raising funds for GAWS heads online
AN inaugural market day in Leopold that raises much-needed funds for the Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) will now be postponed until next week and also offered online.
The fundraiser, which was planned for Saturday at the Geelong Equestrian Centre, will not go ahead due to the latest outbreak of COVID.
But Lisa Mcmeekin, who is organising the event with a team of volunteers, said stall holders were now selling their wares through the “GAWS market day online sale” group on Facebook.
Plus, a smaller market offering donated dog coats for $5 will be held on Wednesday July 21 between 10am and 12pm, as long as we are no longer in lockdown.
The market was set to boast 40 stalls, including dog treats and coats, horse gear, candles, knitwear, second hand items and more.
The fundraiser was originally planned for June, but due to a previous COVID lockdown, was rescheduled for this weekend.
The market will be held in an indoor arena, so inclement weather should not deter attendees, and dogs are more than welcome too, if they are on a leash, to try on the coats.
The market is at 195 Clifton Ave in Leopold.
