TELSTRA has switched on a new mobile base station in Ocean Grove, which will improve coverage, boost capacity and reduce network congestion for visitors and locals.

Located on The Parade, the new station will be especially helpful during peak periods including summer and holiday periods when demand on the surrounding mobile network is highest.

Telstra regional general manager Loretta Willaton said Telstra was continually expanding and improving its network across the country, which included building new infrastructure in regional Victoria. “We know how busy the Bellarine Peninsula and Ocean Grove can get – especially during the busy summer holiday period – and how important it is for people to stay connected,” Ms Willaton said.

“I’m excited we’ve switched on this new mobile base station to improve coverage, boost capacity and reduce network congestion for locals and visitors around Ocean Grove, which will be a big benefit especially during busy periods” According to latest available figures, Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula receive 3.7 million domestic day trip visitors, 1.3 million domestic overnight visitors and 55,900 international visitors each year.

National demand for mobile data has grown by approximately 40 per cent on Telstra’s mobile network in the past 12 months and regional areas are relying on mobile connectivity more than ever before.

Over the five years to June 2019, Telstra’s mobile network investment will total around $8 billion, of which almost $3 billion will have been invested in regional areas.

Telstra’s mobile network is supported by more than 10,000 mobile base stations covering more than 2.5 million square kilometres and reaching 99.5 per cent of the Australian population.
