AN art piece depicting whimsical fish and other sea creatures is now among a growing number of works on display throughout Portarlington.

Located near the pier, the mural is made out of mosaic tiles and was created and erected entirely by volunteers from the Port Arts Network.

President of Port Arts Network Jenny Macaulay said it was great to see what people could do in order to stay connected while being in and out of lockdown.

“In May, Lorraine Stokes invited a number of enthusiastic community members to participate in creating an art piece depicting whimsical fish and other sea creatures using mosaic tiles,” Ms Macaulay said.

“While some were able to place pieces directly onto the base-board when restrictions allowed, others created their marine life at home on a flexible base to be presented at a later date to be incorporated in the over-all scene.”

Ms Macaulay said the art piece was then grouted and sealed ready to be erected near the pier after consultation with, and approval of, the Bellarine Bayside Foreshore Committee.

“This work, a Port Arts Network initiative, was created and erected entirely by volunteers, and is yet another addition to the growing pieces of public art displayed throughout Portarlington.”
