New poker comp hopes to attract a full house
CARD Sharks will be all-in when poker returns to the Bellarine next week.
The Bellarine Poker League (BPL) will host a weekly tournament in the function room at Portarlington Football Club starting on May 24.
Adam Burroughs, of St Leonards, is behind the competition because he said he wanted to play competitive poker closer to home.
“I thought it would be a good idea to start and host a weekly tournament again in Portarlington, so I brought up the idea with the committee of the Portarlington Football Club and got the green light,” Adam said.
“My aim, which is realistic, is to have a minimum of 30 players to turn up for the tournament each week.”
Adam plays football for the Portarlington Demons, as well as being a keen poker player.
He said there was a poker tournament held at St Leonards Golf Club about eight years ago, but that event had moved on.
Adam said another benefit of the competition was that the main chef of a recently closed down Indian restaurant on the main street of Portarlington would prepare and cook the food for each event at the football club.
Registration starts at 6pm and the games start at 7pm. The bar will also be open for food and drinks.
