New post office to open in Ocean Grove

A SECOND post office is set to open in Ocean Grove, with Australia Post seeking expressions of interest for a three-year license to manage a new site at Kingston Village Shopping Centre.

Liberal Senator Sarah Henderson launched a campaign for a new post office in Ocean Grove in March 2016, when she was federal member for Corangamite.

At the time, Australia Post stated there was not a need for another post office in the community, having just committed $500,000 to renovations on the existing Ocean Grove Post Office located at 83 The Terrace.

Ms Henderson said with the town’s population continuing its rise, it was now imperative a second post office be established.

“The rapidly growing communities in the Kingston and Oakdene estates of Ocean Grove currently lack appropriate and equitable access to postal services and this announcement represents a great win for the Ocean Grove community.”

In April, May, and June parcel volumes in the Corangamite electorate almost doubled compared to the same period in 2019.

Ms Henderson said the effects of the coronavirus pandemic meant the new post office was particularly good news for the community.

“This community licensed post office will improve postal services for the Ocean Grove community at a time when more people than ever are relying on Australia Post due to the COVID-19 restrictions,” she said.

“I thank Australia Post for responding to this vital community need and I thank the many Ocean Grove residents who backed our community campaign for better postal services.”
