Nippers season fires up
HUNDREDS of local surf lifesavers will converge on Ocean Grove Surf Beach next weekend for one of the biggest carnivals of the summer.
Life Saving Victoria’s first junior event is slated for December 6, while senior lifesaving event two will follow on Sunday, December 7.
Across two days of jam-packed action, athletes of all ages will test their skills in board paddling, swimming, ski, ironman, running, wading and beach flags.
Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club president Lyndie Freestone said the club was very excited to be launching the junior season.

“The club is feeling excited about the week, it’s going to be great way to showcase Ocean Grove to the state.
“It’s an also a wonderful way for members to represent and bring their diverse skills and qualifications to the fore.
“We are expecting over 130 competitors over the two days, with around 100 of them nippers U8-U13 with a similar number of volunteers.”

Life Saving Victoria senior manager – sport Chris Schleusener echoed her excitement.
“The first LSV junior (nipper) carnival of the season is a great event, especially as it marks the beginning of the lifesaving journey for the U8s.
“For these young participants, the emphasis is on participation, experiencing all the events, and having a great time.
“Ocean Grove is a fantastic beach for surf sports, and we’re excited to see 500+ juniors kick off their season.”
Action on both mornings will start before 8am.
