CONCERNED parents are relieved that an application for a proposed mobile phone tower above Portarlington’s CFA building – directly opposite the town’s primary school – will no longer be pursued by Optus.
Portarlington Primary School children and their parents converged near the site last month to highlight to CPS Global that they did not want six panel antennas and associated support structures and cabling attached to an existing CFA lattice tower, located at 8 Fisher Street.
The final consultation report indicates that, “As a result of this consultation and submissions received, Optus will be not be proceeding with the telecommunications work as formal tenure on the CFA Tower could not be secured”.
Portarlington Primary School Council president Tony Madigan said this was a great result for the school community and a great example of the local community rallying together to have its collective voice heard.
“We appreciate that there is a need for better mobile phone coverage in Portarlington and the search for a less sensitive location is welcomed,” Mr Madigan said.
