A 51-year-old Bell Park man has been charged with false imprisonment, unlawful assault and contravening a court order, following an incident in Bell Park on Tuesday evening.
Residents in Geelong’s northern suburbs were urged to stay indoors as police negotiated with the man, who had barricaded himself inside a Bell Park home.
Officers were called to the property in McClelland Street at about 4.30pm to conduct a welfare check.
Police cordoned off McClelland Street, Yaraan Street and Thorburn Street as a precaution and encouraged people to avoid the area.
The seven-hour standoff came to an end at 11.30pm and the 51-year-old man was remanded overnight.
He will appear at Geelong Magistrates Court today (Wednesday, November 5).
