NURSING and health and business focused fields headline the most popular courses chosen by more than 5300 school-leavers as part of the 2022 Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre’s (VTAC) December offers.

Deakin University revealed a fortnight ago that Nursing had retained its spot at the top for the third year running, with Business and Exercise and Sports Science courses rounding out the top three.

The Exercise and Sports Science podium finish comes after the course program was recently named the world’s best for sports science by ShanghaiRankings Global Ranking, picking up the title for the fourth time.

VTAC December offers also revealed that many students had also elected to study Commerce, Health Sciences, Biomedical Sciences and Psychology courses.

Deakin University’s Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Professor Helen Partridge said Deakin were thrilled to provide a range of courses that would get students job ready.

Deakin University has campuses in Waurn Ponds, Geelong, Warrnambool and Burwood.

“The interest in health-related fields is no surprise given the continued fallout from the global pandemic and the unprecedented demand for experts in these professions,” Professor Partridge said.

“Our growing information technology, data and analytics focused courses will also help meet workforce demand to capitalise on the enormous opportunities presented by new smart technologies, as well as tackle the serious risk of cyber security threats to keep communities safe.

“Our new students will arrive in a highly supportive, progressive and personalised learning environment, which has been ranked first in Victoria for overall student satisfaction for 12 consecutive years.

“We continue to innovate by reshaping our approach to courses, learning and teaching and enhancing the experience of our students.”

Professor Partridge also cited that offers would continue to come through for students into January and February 2023.

The January-February offer rounds include those for courses which did not make offers in December, as well as students whose results were not available before December.
