Ocean Grove Barnacles have a big day out

Ocean Grove Preschool’s Liz Grant led the children through various songs.

OCEAN Grove Preschool’s four-year-old kinder group the Barnacles headed off for a day of adventures surprising residents at Arcare in Point Lonsdale on August 29.

The group called in to the Marine Discovery Centre in Queenscliff where they engaged with a variety of interactive displays and learned about various marine life from the centre’s educational leaders.

The children then boarded the bus and called into Arcare Point Lonsdale where they coloured in, read stories and finished off the visit by performing a selection of songs to residents.

Arcare Lifestyle Assistant Amida Jones said the afternoon visit brightened the day for the “Arcare elders” and allowed them to reminisce about their own grand and great grandchildren.

“They absolutely love it, it’s a highlight for them. Children are so open, they bring a lightness with them. Sometimes the elders can feel like they’re not noticed whereas kids aren’t as judgemental,” Ms Jones said.

“It helps them feel connected, not only to each other but to the community. They tell stories about their own families after the kids leave and are always uplifted afterwards.”
