THE Ocean Grove Apple Fair has raised more than $30,000 for Ocean Grove Primary School giving the local institution a huge boost in their efforts to build a new outdoor learning space.

More than 3,000 people turned out to last Sunday’s event, which marked the return of the fair after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attendees enjoyed entertainment from some of the region’s local favourites such as Kim Cooper, The Piano Bar and Good Faces for Radio, a host of fun amusements and activities and a variety of food and beverage options from local vendors.

The event aimed to be as waste free as possible and all vendors were encouraged to use reusable products.

This helped to save 1,200 plates and bowls and over 450 cups and mugs from entering landfill.

Event co-organiser and school parents and friends club president Georgia Fiske said the event exceeded expectations.

“From 10am to 3pm, it was just packed and heaving with people.

“Everyone had such a great time, and it was fantastic to see so many from outside the school community at the event.

“To have a whole new committee of more than 200 volunteers pull it together without a hitch was huge effort.

“It was touted by many as the best Apple Fair in its 26-year history, which is just amazing.”

More than 3,000 turned out for the event.

Ms Fiske said the $30,000 raised would go a long way in assisting the school to build their new outdoor facility.

“We are working with a school family on the project which is really exciting.

“It will have an Indigenous design and exist as a bit of a yarning circle.

“It will not only be a great space for the children to learn in, but somewhere they can hang out and enjoy.

“We are already working towards commencing the project next year and planning is well underway.”
