Ocean Grove leads junior title race following Lorne event

February 27, 2019 BY

Junior competitors take to the water with their boards.

OCEAN Grove Surf Life Saving Club leads the overall point race at the 2019 Junior Lifesaving Championships, after competition in Lorne at the weekend.

Points are still up for grabs during the Rescue and Resuscitation (R&R) Championships held at Sandridge beach this weekend, which will determine the final overall outcome.

Ideal surf conditions on day one saw strong competition in individual water and beach events,
including board races and beach flags.

Conditions at Lorne became more challenging on day two, resulting in the cancellation of some team water events, while beach relay and wade events continued with winners crowned across all age groups, from Under 9s to Under 13s.

Thirty-four Surf Life Saving and Life Saving Clubs and more than 1,350 individual athletes competed in the event which was held at Lorne SLSC for the first time since 2013.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved – officials, volunteers, parents and of course the athletes,” LSV Manager of Sport Kirsty Clark said.

“We look forward to the R&R events next weekend and seeing an overall winner announced.”

Ocean Grove Surf Life Saving Club is followed by Mornington Life Saving Club (LSC), Mentone LSC and Lorne SLSC.
