Operator launches ferry big push for more staff
SEAROAD Ferries has set sail on what it is describing as its biggest ever push to find more staff as its new Queenscliff terminal prepares to open next month.
The ferry operator is seeking at least 25 new staff to work in its new state-of-the-art passenger terminal, café and events space, and is also recruiting for ferry operational positions.
“It’s the biggest recruitment drive in the company’s 35-year history,” Searoad Ferries chief executive officer Matt McDonald said.
“We’ll be increasing our workforce by 25 per cent and assembling a team that will deliver a range of unique experiences.

There are a wide variety of roles available, including duty managers, events supervisors and front of house in the hospitality team, as well as customer service roles, marine operations manager, marketing and accounts positions and traineeships, plus a range of casual summer job opportunities.
Searoad Ferries, which operates between Queenscliff and Sorrento every day of the year, says it is renowned for its fun and vibrant work culture.

Situated beachside on the Bellarine Peninsula, the architecturally-designed venue, is a hospitality setting and contemporary ferry terminal unlike anything else in the state.
Searoad Ferries presently employs more than 150 people with an incredible average tenure of 16 years.
“I think those stats show that people like working here,” Mr McDonald said.

The redevelopment of the Queenscliff Ferry Terminal has been in the works for more than 10 years, and has been supported by the Geelong City Deal.
The building’s design will give ferry passengers a world-class experience including better visitor facilities, improved disability access, safer access for pedestrians, a revitalised café and new boardwalk.
Mr McDonald said he and the team were proud of the reputation Searoad Ferries had established in the tourism and transport sectors, and he said about one million people travelled the “sea road” across Port Phillip Bay 365 days a year.
