Orchids take the spotlight at annual show

July 11, 2018 BY

Show-stopping plants were on display for the public to view.

ORCHID clubs from across the state shared their show stopping plants with the public during a show in Leopold at the weekend.

More than 930 people came to see a wonderful display of many different orchid genera at the Victorian Country Orchid Clubs Challenge at Leopold Primary School on Sunday.

Hosted by the Geelong Orchid and Indoor Plant Club, event organisers said the challenge took a lot of hard work by its members, but was well worth it.

Eleven clubs participated in the challenge, travelling from Mildura, Warrnambool, Horsham, Stawell, St Arnaud, Shepparton, Bendigo, Kerang, Cobden and Ballarat.

The Geelong club was awarded challenge winners of the show with their display of a variety of magnificent cymbidiums, cattleeyas, masdevallia, dendrobiums and many other species of plants.

Many club members from all participating clubs received sashes and other acknowledgement for all their hard work in growing and preparing the beautiful plants to become real show stoppers for the public to view.

The special annual event will be held in St Arnaud next year.

If anyone is interested in joining the Geelong club they can contact either John on 0414 672 655 or Judy on 5229 5477.
