PARKS Victoria is offering 12 new ranges the opportunity to work at the forefront of outdoor recreation and conservation as the organisation searches for new rangers.

Based at work centres across the state, rangers spend each day working with communities where no day will be the same.

While delivering essential work to Victoria’s parks those who take on the role also support a range of outdoor recreation opportunities, boost local economies, build stronger communities and forge lifelong memories for families and visitors.

A ranger’s role is broad and can be split into two sections: managing natural values and visitor services. Building relationships within the community and working with volunteers is also essential.

“Parks Victoria is full of passionate, committed people who move mountains to keep parks open, safe and clean and protect our environment – this is your chance to join them and help protect our state’s great outdoors,” Parks Victoria chief executive Lee Miezis said.

Parks Victoria have ranger roles based right across the state, offering a position where no two days are the same.

“Our rangers are so important to Victoria – whether it’s in one of our urban parks, a marine sanctuary, a campground or a wilderness area, everyone benefits from the work they do.”

Parks Victoria protects a diverse area including almost 2,000 marine parks and reserves across the state.

The 12 roles on offer are spread across regional centres, including the waters of Port Phillip Bay and the beaches of Portland, focused on frontline field work.

People interested in pursuing a career as a park ranger are encouraged to compete an appropriate tertiary qualification in Natural Resources/ Park Management.

Parks Victoria is also seeking two ranger team leaders, including one based at Serendip, with the more senior roles managing a team of rangers and overseeing maintenance programs.
