Pashley second Aussie across the finish line
SURF Coast’s Ellie Pashley was the second Australian to complete the athletics women’s marathon in Tokyo.
Pashley completed the Olympic event in two hours, thirty-three minutes and thirty-nine seconds.
Due to high temperatures, the marathon was rescheduled to start an hour earlier at 6am to avoid the heat.
Australia had three competitors in the event with Sinead Diver storming home to finish 10th, in 2:31:14, while Lisa Weightman, competing at her fourth Games, was 26th in 2:34:19.
Peres Jepchirchir upset fellow Kenyan and current world record holder Brigid Kosgei to win the gold medal, clocking a winning time of 2:27:20.
