POINT Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) has turned to a familiar face to lead it through the remainder of 2024 and into its “exciting new era.”

Club life member and former president Michael Doery was elected as president at the club’s Annual General Meeting in January, replacing outgoing president Charlie Pitney.

Mr Doery started his journey at Point Lonsdale SLSC back in 1968 as a Nipper and has taken on many positions and roles at the club over the past 56 years.

He served as president for the first time between 2009-2015 and became the club’s third longest serving leader in its 77-year history.

During his first tenure, Mr Doery was instrumental in delivering the new clubhouse facility and a large storage to store lifesaving and aquatic sports equipment.

He was inducted as a life member in 2021 in recognition of his “longstanding involvement and contribution to the community”.

The incumbent president also holds five chairman and non-executive director roles within the property investment, engineering, health and education, finance and administration sector.

Mr Doery said he looked forward to outlining future projects and continuing to prioritise safety on the beach.

“It’s fantastic to be back in the presidency role again. It’s such a vibrant club and is transitioning into an exciting new era,” he said.

“We’ve now got the clubhouse fully in swing and great foundations in place which will be key to the club’s success.

“As always, we remain committed to protecting lives on our beach and doing all we can to respect the surf with safety in mind.

“I look forward to my tenure ahead and thank outgoing president Charlie Pitney for his incredible work and leadership.”
