AUSTRALIA’S largest one-day bike ride will set off on October 26, when United Energy Around the Bay returns.
Participants will have the option of completing five different distances, including the 135km route starting in Geelong, and the 220km Classic, which takes riders along the Bellarine Peninsula.
Returning for its 30th year, Around the Bay is a celebration of community, inclusion and the joy of riding.
“We’re looking forward to what promises to be an incredible event at this year’s United Energy Around the Bay,” Bicycle Network chief executive officer Alison McCormack said.
“Whether you’re riding a penny farthing or the latest aero bike, United Energy Around the Bay offers a suitable option for you.”
Riders of all generations are encouraged to get on their bikes with kids under the age of 14 riding for free in the Lap the Track around Albert Park and 50km options.
In Geelong’s 135km event, riders will set off from Cunningham Pier, follow the Port Phillip Bay coastline, travel through the Bellarine Peninsula, Queenscliff and catch the ferry to Sorrento.

Local business owner, former professional cyclist and Tour de France stage winner Simon Gerrans is also getting behind this year’s ride.
“It’s fantastic to see Geelong play a key role in United Energy around the Bay,” he said.
“The 135km Geelong start not only showcases some of Victoria’s best riding but also connects regional and metro riders in a shared celebration of cycling.
“My business, Hendry’s, is a local business and ingrained in the Geelong cycling community, so I see firsthand how events like this strengthen our riding culture, inspire participation and support community not only in the Geelong area, but across the state.”
This year’s event is partnering with Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision, supporting the charity in funding research into bone marrow failure syndromes.
