ROLLING Pin Pies and Cakes’ Country Lamb and Rosemary Pie is proving to be a competition stalwart.

In late June, the pie was judged Australia’s Best Gourmet Pie at the Australia’s Best Pie Competition on the Gold Coast.

It has now won 14 gold medals, judged overall Best Gourmet Pie (Great Aussie Pie Competition 2016/17) and now Australia’s Best Pie – Gourmet Category 2018.

Rolling Pin Pies and Cakes’ Nathan Williams said there was nothing overly innovative about the pie; it just tasted amazing.

“Of course, the combination of rosemary and lamb is a match made in heaven.

“Add slow-cooked lamb, fresh vegetables and a punch in the face of flavour, and you have a great pie.”

Mr Williams said Rolling Pin followed it up with a great result at the first ever official Geelong Baking Show (run by the Baking Association of Australia) at The Gordon, picking up six gongs.

“Most notably, our Beefsteak and Jumbo Chunky pies taking out first and second in the much coveted and highly contested Plain Pie category, and our Meat and Veg pasty for placing first by a massive 8 points,” he said.

“We also won best small fruit tart and best large fruit flan.

“We are thrilled with the results.

“It creates a real buzz in the shop and it’s a wonderful validation of the hard work the team puts in.

“We did feel some added pressure going in to the local Geelong competition.

“Because of our success at national competitions we felt we really needed to put in a good showing at Geelong’s first major baking show, and we are extremely happy with our results.”
