PLANS are afoot for a large resort to be built in Portarlington.

Melbourne-based building group Contra Constructions recently announced their ambition to build the facilities on the block of land on 130 Tower Road that backs onto Pigdon Street.

Contra Constructions say on their website that they have grand ambitions for the resort.

“The Portarlington Resort will be a world-class complex with plenty of WOW architectural features, facilities and services.

“Resort facilities will include: accommodation; bar; restaurant; functions rooms; conferences facilities; ball room; and wellness facilities such as pools, salt baths, gymnasium, spas, sauna, and treatment rooms for wellness and beauty services.”

However, with the planned location just outside a residential area, Contra Constructions say they are also eager to ensure the building does not cause disruption for locals.

“Although a large complex, the resort is designed for minimal negative impact to surrounding areas, and is appropriate for its location.

“The building will be set into the hill, making use of the terrain to allow fantastic views for patrons, and to minimize impact to residents. It will not be very visible from the main road.”

They also estimate the resort will directly and indirectly create about 400 jobs.

Contra Constructions will hold a drop-in session at 130 Tower Road between 10am-4pm on Saturday December 14 to give people a chance to see the plans for the resort and view the land it will be built on.

The plans are expected to be lodged with the City of Great Geelong council shortly.
