Plastic-free ocean day draws a crowd
AN EVENT dedicated to promoting a shared passion for protecting the Surf Coast’s marine and coastal environments through plastic-free living was held last Saturday.
Surf for the Sea was held at Torquay Surf Beach, and was hosted by sustainable swimwear brand Akua Oceanwear, with brand owner, marine scientist and surfer Zoe Strapp, and a collection of local businesses including Sea Earth Adventures, The Travelling Yogis, and Senors Restaurant.
The day offered two free surf lessons on Torquay’s iconic surf beach, a free yoga class for all ages and abilities, acoustic music by the sea with Pat Campbell, a beach clean-up walk, free eco giveaways and lots of amazing interactive information on how participants could help explore and save the beauty of the Surf Coast’s stunning marine coastline.
Zoe Strapp from Akua Oceanwear said she was extremely passionate about preserving the Surf Coast’s iconic coastline.
“I believe there is no better way to spread the word than by diving into all the ocean has to offer, from surfing, to beach walks and igniting a passion worldwide for its future protection,” she said.
