THE Jan Juc playgroup held the first session of its “Wheels for Kids” program last Thursday at Bob Pettit Reserve.

The six-week program aims to help children learn the basic rules of road safety.

It was funded as part of the Surf Coast Shire’s Small Grants Program in March this year.

Cr Martin Duke attended the session along with mayor Rose Hodge. He said it was reaffirming to be able to witness the results of the Small Grants Program.

“It is always great to see first-hand how Council’s Small Grants Program can make a real difference for our community groups.

“A $1,000 allocation has helped mobilise this Wheels for Kids program, which will see our young riders gaining confidence, learning about road rules and safety, interacting and enjoying healthy activity.”

The grant provided a range of equipment for the program, including a range of bikes tailored for children of different ages.

It was one of 19 organisations to receive grants in the March round of the Small Grants Program.

Cr Duke urged other community organisations around the shire to consider making submissions for “our small grants, which can make big differences”.
