Playgroups get government funding

October 10, 2019 BY

PLAYGROUPS in both Winchelsea and Aireys Inlet have received grants from the state government.

The state government has been handing out grants of up to $1,000 as part of their $50,000 Great Start Community Playgroup Grants program.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said the grants were an acknowledgement of the importance of playgroups. “Playgroups can make a big difference by connecting families in a local community so they can support each other.

“We want to help more Surf Coast families benefit from community playgroups, so we’re giving new local playgroups a boost through the Great Start Grants.”

The grant for Aireys Inlet Playgroup is to aid with the purchase of books, indoor play equipment, and materials for craft and gardening.

The grant for the Winchelsea Playgroup will help purchase books, musical instruments and both indoor and outdoor play equipment. Over 40,000 children and 30,000 families participate in playgroups in Victoria each year.
