PLCA meeting will address local issues

BELLARINE MP Lisa Neville will speak at a Point Lonsdale Community Association (PLCA) meeting tomorrow (Friday) night.

The topic for the night is “One 3225”, with Ms Neville focusing on issues surrounding Point Lonsdale and the Bellarine.

Also during the meeting, which will be held at Point Lonsdale Primary School, the association will give an update on the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse Reserve and a short report regarding the Queenscliffe Lighthouse Reserve.

The association intends to pass a motion to give a one-off donation of $1,000 to the Point Lonsdale Surf Life Saving Club, specifically for the building of the new club house, in recognition of the ongoing contribution of the club to the safety and enjoyment of the beaches by so many.

In its first newsletter for the year, PLCA president Rob Minty touched on some important issues facing the Borough and gives a rundown of the association’s last meeting.

These include the Borough of Queenscliffe’s priorities for 2018, the council’s Proposed Rating Strategy for 2018, preserving the green belt between Ocean Grove and the Borough of Queenscliffe, and the Port Phillip and Bellarine Peninsula Ramsar Site Draft Management Plan.

At its last meeting, the PLCA also welcomed the new City of Greater Geelong councillors from the Bellarine Ward: Stephanie Asher, Jim Mason and Trent Sullivan.

“The meeting was a great success with lots of people in attendance, particularly those living north of Fellows Road,” Mr Minty said.

“The councillors gave an outline of their community commitments and then answered many rather searching questions.”

The PLCA meeting will start at 7.30pm.
