STAGE two of the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse restoration works is now underway and will include the refurbishment of defence structures, an upgrade of the areas around the lighthouse, electrical upgrades and the installation of accessible pathways.

These works are a continuation of the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse restoration works which commenced in late October 2022.

In 2012, ownership of the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse Reserve was transferred from the State Government to the Borough of Queenscliffe. Since that time, the Council has been working with stakeholders and local community to restore the site.

The Council awarded the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse Reserve Works Contract to Q Constructions in a closed Special Meeting of Council on September 7, 2022.

This decision followed collaboration with Heritage Victoria, the Department of Environment, Land, Water, and Planning, and Wadawurrung Traditional Owners.

Stage One works on the lighthouse restoration commenced in late October 2022 and included cladding for the external walls, restoring existing pathways and landscaping, and manufacturing and installing signage.

The Council has received funding from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) for stage 2 works of the restoration.

For stage 2 of the works, the Council held an expression of interest process that called for community members to be involved in the Project Control Group (PCG) which would oversee stage 2 works.

The PCG includes two councillors, representatives of DEECA and local community members Andrew Sutherland and Max Lazarus. Representatives of Wadawurrung Traditional Owners have also provided guidance throughout the process of the restoration.

The Council aims for project completion by mid-2024.
