Police seek help in finding wanted offenders
CRIME Stoppers Victoria is calling on people in the Geelong region to help locate wanted offenders by reporting information on their whereabouts.
The not-for-profit crime-reporting organisation last week named 10 offenders wanted by Geelong Police for a number of crimes committed in the area.
Another 10 wanted offenders will be named this week, and the community is urged to report anything they know of the offenders confidentially to Crime Stoppers.
It is part of a three-month collaborative campaign between Crime Stoppers Victoria and Geelong Police to drive down crime across the area and create a safer community.
Acting Superintendent Geoff Colsell said he was confident that many of the offenders still resided in the Geelong area.
“Each person we are looking for is known to either frequent the Geelong and Surf Coast region or have links to the area, so we believe someone in the community will know where they are.
“Together these people have committed a number of crimes in our community and they must be held accountable for their actions, but we need the community to help us find them.
“We’re urging anyone with any information relating to the offenders named as part of this campaign to not approach them, but report what they know to Crime Stoppers confidentially.
“If your image is released, we urge you to present yourself to your local police station. We know who you are; it’s just a matter of time before the community tells us where you are.”
The two-week public call-out follows a successful roll-out of the initiative across both the Latrobe Valley and Bendigo in 2017 as well as in Ballarat in late 2016.
