Poppy donation for Star of the Sea

April 26, 2018 BY

The Star of the Sea Retirement Village Craft Group has created these red poppies to mark Anzac Day this year.

STAR of the Sea Retirement Village’s craft group created more than 100 crocheted poppies to mark Anzac Day.

Countries around the world see the red poppy as a symbol to remember veterans and those who lost their lives in war. The poppy is worn around Armistice Day (November 11) and it has also become popular in wreaths used on Anzac Day.

One of the Star of the Sea Village crafters, Valerie Bateman, said they will donate the poppies to neighbouring Star of the Sea Residential Aged Care, where some of the residents are war veterans.

The craft group meet a few times a week to share their love of craft, crocheting and knitting. They donate many of their creations to good causes in the local community.
